South Atlantic Coast Water Polo League Championship Tournament
First Annual Championship Tournament to be hosted at the Greensboro Aquatic CenterUpdated Wednesday April 24, 2013 by South Atlantic Coast Water Polo League.
Greensboro, NC, 4/24/13: The Triangle and Triad Water Polo Clubs are hosting the inaugural Water Polo Championship including teams from the southeastern states, stretching from Georgia in the south up to and including Maryland in the north. The South Atlantic Coast Water Polo League (www.sacwaterpolo.com) was formed by nine teams with the vision of growing the sport of water polo in the Southeastern United States. The championship tournament will take place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on June 8th-9th and is free and open to the public. Approximately 120 athletes will participate in the events surrounding the Championship Tournament, which include a Referee Clinic on Friday from 4:30-7pm that is open to anyone for a minimal fee and 16 games played from 8am - 8pm on Saturday, June 8th. On Sunday, June 9th, there will be 4 games starting at 8 am, a Skills Competition open to players from attending teams along with a sniper competition before the Bronze Medal Game. In addition, a Youth Clinic will immediately follow the Gold Medal Game at approximately 12pm.
South Atlantic Coast Water Polo League: Formed officially in March of 2013 and includes 9 founding teams with the vision of expanding water polo in the southeast. This first year, all teams are open to ages 16+ and are co-ed. In future years, the League's vision includes incorporating individual competitions throughout the year for Men, Women, High School Teens, and Age-Group Youth.
Triangle Water Polo Club: Formed in 2007, and officially incorporated in 2013 as a non-profit club, practices in Cary, NC at the Triangle Aquatic Center. Several of the Triangle Water Polo Club members coach the men’s and women’s collegiate club teams in the triangle area. In addition, TWPC offers youth clinics throughout the year and a Youth League during the summer months.
Triad Water Polo Club: Was originally formed and practiced in Winston-Salem, but now practices at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Youth clinics have been a part of the program in the past and more are currently being planned, including one immediately following the Gold Medal Game on Sunday at approximately 1pm.
